Exploring Citizen Science: Help NASA Make Space Discoveries

Watch the webinar recording.

Tuesday, August 13, 2:00pm-3:00pm Eastern Time.

Join NASA’s Transform to Open Science team for a discussion of NASA’s citizen scientist projects. These initiatives provide open access to data and collaboration opportunities with scientists. Over 2 million citizen scientists have made significant discoveries, including exoplanets, comets, star-forming regions, and more.

Marc Kuchner, citizen scientist officer at NASA will overview NASA’s growing citizen science portfolio, successes, strategies, and best practices. We will also explore astronomy-themed citizen science projects like Backyard Worlds: Planet 9, Cool Neighbors, and the upcoming Exoasteroids project.

You’ll hear the perspectives of Dr. Aaron Meisner, a scientist and project leader, and Dan Caselden, a project volunteer whose discoveries have been published in Nature and observed with the Webb space telescope.

This event is open to the public and will include an interactive Q&A following the presentations.

Body text reads, “Thanks to open access data, NASA's citizen science projects and volunteers have helped make thousands of scientific discoveries — and there's plenty more to discover! Join us to learn about how you can get involved in NASA citizen science projects and how to develop your own.” The date at the bottom says Tuesday, August 13, at 2 p.m. ET. The TOPS logo, of a spinning top-like rocket blasting off against a shield background, sits in the lower left.
