The Astrophysics Cross-Observatory Science Support (ACROSS) initiative aims to advance time-domain and multimessenger (TDAMM) science by facilitating the coordination of observational resources and scientific expertise to enable rapid, unified, and effective responses to maximize the scientific return of the astrophysics community. Advancing this field relies not only on technological innovation and scientific insight, but equally on the collaboration, communication, and infrastructure necessary to support multifaceted exploration of the universe.

ACROSS Support Overview

The situational awareness tools developed by ACROSS are a centralized interface for coordinating follow-up observations in time-domain and multimessenger astronomy. By aggregating real-time data from multiple observatories, including mission status, scheduling, visibility, and constraints, these dashboards offer a centralized view that enables scientists to quickly assess the feasibility of follow-up observations across facilities. This integrated approach streamlines decision-making during fast-paced transients, improves coordination among missions, and helps identify optimal follow-up strategies that align with each observatory’s capabilities.

ACROSS is developing modern Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to NASA TDAMM relevant missions. APIs play a critical role in enabling the rapid coordination and responsiveness required for TDAMM astronomy. By providing standardized, machine-readable access to mission state, status, observing plans, and observational constraints, APIs allow automated systems to quickly assess which observatories are available, where they are pointing, and what constraints might affect follow-up observations. APIs for submitting target of opportunity (ToO) requests streamline the process of triggering rapid observations across facilities, reducing human latency and enabling timely data collection in response to transient events.

ACROSS API PortalThe ACROSS API portal provides comprehensive documentation of the API schema and available endpoints.#

ACROSS developed a set of python based toolkits to programmatically interface with the ACROSS developed APIs. These toolkits allow researchers to build custom workflows, automate decision-making, and integrate real-time data streams into their own analysis pipelines. The toolkits enable seamless access to the ACROSS mission dashboards, APIs, and ToO services, allowing users to query observatory status, evaluate follow-up feasibility, and trigger observations without manual intervention.

ACROSS API SDK ClientThe ACROSS Software Development Kit provides tools for integrating with the ACROSS API.#

ACROSS enables TDAMM astrophysics by centralizing access to critical resources, including information on TDAMM-relevant missions and their observational capabilities, maintaining an up-to-date calendar of past and upcoming conferences, and a list of funding opportunities relevant to TDAMM science.
