ACROSS Developed Resources

The Astrophysics Cross-Observatory Science Support (ACROSS) initiative is developing tools and resources to enhance coordination in time-domain and multimessenger astronomy. Its situational awareness dashboards aggregate real-time data on mission status, scheduling, visibility, and constraints across multiple observatories, giving scientists a centralized view to quickly assess the feasibility of follow-up observations and identify optimal strategies that align with each facility’s capabilities. Complementing these dashboards, ACROSS is also building modern Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that provide standardized, machine-readable access to mission state, observing plans, and constraints. These APIs enable automated systems to rapidly determine observatory availability, streamline the submission of target of opportunity (ToO) requests, and reduce human latency, ensuring more timely and coordinated responses to transient astrophysical events.

FEATURED RESOURCE

The ACROSS API

ACROSS is developing modern Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to NASA TDAMM relevant missions. APIs play a critical role in enabling the rapid coordination and responsiveness required for TDAMM astronomy. By providing standardized, machine-readable access to mission state and status, observing plans, and observational constraints, APIs allow automated systems to quickly assess which observatories are available, where they are pointing, and what constraints might affect follow-up observations. Furthermore, APIs for submitting target of opportunity (ToO) requests streamline the process of triggering rapid observations across facilities, reducing human latency and enabling timely data collection in response to transient events.

FEATURED RESOURCE

The General Coordinates Network

The General Coordinates Network (GCN) is a public collaboration platform run by NASA for the astronomy research community to share alerts and rapid communications about high-energy, multimessenger, and transient phenomena. GCN is the established platform for publishing discoveries and follow-up of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), gravitational-wave (GW) compact binary mergers, and high-energy neutrinos. GCN distributes alerts between space- and ground-based observatories, physics experiments, and thousands of astronomers around the world.

FEATURED RESOURCE

Treasure Map

The Treasure Map is a coordination tool for followup observations of gravitational wave (GW) events with user-reported observations. The Treasure Map enables facilities coordination to quickly and efficiently identify electromagnetic counterpart to GW events.
