In December 2024, NASA's Planetary Science Division officially launched the Planetary Data Ecosystem (PDE) website, a new hub designed to streamline access to vital planetary science data and tools. The PDE connects NASA’s planetary missions with data analysis, software development, and research initiatives from the global planetary science community.
The elements of the PDE include:
- Repositories, databases, and catalogs that include planetary data and higher-order data products from space missions, ground-based facilities, and research and analysis projects. Two prominent examples are the Planetary Data System (PDS) and the Astromaterials Data System (Astromat).
- Software and tools tailored for planetary science applications, such as data processing tools, mission support software, visualization applications, modeling and simulation tools, and data analysis tools.
- Standards and policies that help researchers perform robust planetary science, following open science practices.
- Learning resources to lower barriers for using planetary data and tools, such as presentations, tutorials, past workshop materials, and upcoming events.
- Community groups focused on planetary science and exploration.
Comments and feedback on the website are welcome and encouraged. Please email the NASA Headquarters PDE Team with any comments, additional information, or corrections at hq-pde@mail.nasa.gov.
