NASA’s IMAP Releases First Set of Heliophysics Data

Launched on Sept. 24, 2025, NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) is currently on its mission to better understand the boundary of the heliosphere, a huge bubble created by the Sun that surrounds and protects our solar system. As of Feb. 1, all 10 instruments on the spacecraft successfully began collecting data.

On July 29, science data from the mission's in-situ and sample instruments through April 30, 2026 became available from imap.princeton.edu/data, and will soon be archived on NASA’s Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF) website.

This data release includes observations and measurements from the following instruments: Compact Dual Ion Composition Experiment (CoDICE), High-energy Ion Telescope (HIT), Solar Wind and Pickup Ion (SWAPI), Solar Wind Electron (SWE), Interstellar Dust Experiment (IDEX), Global Solar Wind Structure (GLOWS), Magnetometer (MAG).

OSDR Releases 11 New Biology Datasets and 2 Processed RNA-seq Datasets

NASA’s Open Science Data Repository (OSDR) released 11 new datasets and two newly processed RNA-seq datasets, further expanding the repository's collection of openly available space biology data. These studies span transcriptomics, behavioral science, vision research, molecular biology, histology, and imaging, providing researchers with valuable resources to support research on the biological effects of spaceflight and space-relevant conditions.

New Datasets

  • OSD-767 – Plant bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "Stress and light spectral quality influence the transcriptome of a tomato crop on the International Space Station"
  • OSD-977 – Rats behavioral study titled "Effects of spaceflight on cancellous and cortical bone in proximal femur in growing rats."
  • OSD-990 – Human cell line bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "Transcriptional Response in Human Jurkat T Lymphocytes to a near Physiological Hypergravity Environment and to One Common in Routine Cell Culture Protocols - 9g hypergravity experiment"
  • OSD-998 – Human cell line bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "Transcriptional Response in Human Jurkat T Lymphocytes to a near Physiological Hypergravity Environment and to One Common in Routine Cell Culture Protocols - 300 g centrifugation and heat stress experiment"
  • OSD-999 – Human organoids bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "Sex‐Specific Changes in Brain Organoids from Acute Simulated Galactic Cosmic Radiation are Rescued by Targeted ECM Pathway Stimulation (sex-specific response experiment)"
  • OSD-1000 – Human brain organoid bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "Sex‐Specific Changes in Brain Organoids from Acute Simulated Galactic Cosmic Radiation are Rescued by Targeted ECM Pathway Stimulation (Opto-FGFR-mediated rescue under simGCRsim exposure)"
  • OSD-1005 – Human cell line bulk RNA-seq dataset titled "PROtection MEdiated by Antioxidant NanoTEchnOlogy Against Neuronal Damage in Space 2 (PROMETEO 2, Nano Protection)"
  • OSD-815, OSD-816, OSD-817, OSD-818 – Human ocular analog datasets from the study "The ex vivo human translaminar autonomous system to study spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome pathogenesis," including photography, RT-PCR, electroretinography, histology, microscopy, and western blot analyses.

NASA Archive Hosts New Version of Chandra Source Catalog

On July 28, NASA’s High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) announced that it had ingested an updated version of a Chandra X-ray Observatory catalog. The Chandra Source Catalog Stacked Observation Detections (CSCSTACK) v2.1.1 includes 493,236 detections based on 10,034 stacks of X-ray observations.

The Chandra Source Catalog provides carefully curated, high-quality, and uniformly calibrated and analyzed tabulated positional, spatial, photometric, spectral, and temporal source properties, as well as science-ready X-ray data products.

NISAR L-Band Data Now Available on NASA Earthdata

Beginning July 20, calibrated L-band data from the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission became available through the Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF DAAC) and NASA Earthdata. This public release includes observations from on or after June 17, 2026.  

NISAR’s L-band radar instrument can detect features that shorter wavelengths often cannot. It penetrates vegetation canopies and, under certain conditions, snow and ice, providing information that is not visible in optical imagery alone.

New acquisitions will be added as they are processed, providing researchers with an expanding record of Earth's changing surface. Earlier observations collected during NISAR's first year of science operations will continue to be added over the coming months, with the complete science record expected to be available by the end of 2026.
